SIMI VALLEY, Calif. – Freedom Designs has announced plans to close its Simi Valley, Calif., facility, a move that will result in the layoff of 70 employees by June 1, 2026, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filing with the state.
A company spokesperson told HME News that manufacturing operations will be relocated to another state.
“Freedom Designs is an important part of the Invacare family,” the spokesperson said. “To enhance our product offerings in this category, we’ve chosen to transition manufacturing to a state-of-the-art facility out of state. Our sales and customer service teams, however, will remain in the Simi Valley area, where we are currently looking for a new space to house these operations. These changes will allow us to continue providing the high-quality products and service our customers rely on.”
Layoff Timeline
The company’s filing indicates that the first round of layoffs will occur by Oct. 29, 2025, with the remaining employees to be let go by June 1, 2026. Freedom Designs said the move is part of a broader “business restructuring.”
“We deeply regret the impact on our employees and are committed to supporting them through this transition,” the filing stated. “We will also work closely with local authorities to help facilitate the process.”
Background
In 2023, Freedom Designs’ parent company, Invacare Holdings Corporation, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as part of a financial restructuring plan aimed at reducing net debt by about 65% and recapitalizing its balance sheet.
